The Australian Government Photovoltaic Rebate Program provides rebates for solar systems for:
Residential – new systems
Residential – extension to old systems
Schools
Community use buildings
For a householder installing a new 1000Watt system on their home a rebate of $8,000 is available! For extensions to existing systems rebates of up to $5,000 are available.
Schools and community use buildings are entitled to a rebate of 50% of the system cost up to a 2kW system.
Compliance
To comply with rebate terms and conditions, applicants must ensure that:
A pre-approval application is lodged and approved before the system is installed
Major equipment items in the installation are new and not second-hand
The system is designed and installed by persons who are suitably qualified and experienced; and who a Business Council for Sustainable Energy Accreditation to design and install systems
The PV system is mounted on or integrated into the structure of the building that will be using the power
The PV system is installed and operates on the proposed building for a minimum of 5 years
The applicant must provide Australian Greenhouse Office access to the system at any time within this period, on written request with reasonable notice, in order to ensure system’s continued operation
How To Apply
Solar Technology Australia will assist throughout the process
1. The rebate applicant completes a Residential pre-approval form
2. The applicant receives notification if pre-approval has been granted or not within six weeks from receipt of the completed application.
3. The system is installed once pre-approval has been granted
4. Once installation is completed an Installation Report needs to be completed and sent to the Department of Water, Housing, Arts and Environment.
5. Payment of a rebate will be made on receipt of a fully and correctly completed installation report, the payment of the rebate will generally occur within six weeks of receipt of the Installation Report
